The PSA Debate

The PSA Test, when used as a test for early stage prostate cancer, is fiercely controversial. Although patients are almost unanimous in their view that PSA testing is "a good thing", and either are grateful that having the test probably saved their lives, or regret not having had it earlier, we recognise that there are other legitimate points of view. Notwithstanding some encouraging results from recent trials, the debate will continue. The purpose of this page in the Real PCRMP website is to provide a forum for this debate.

We have invited a number of eminent clinicians, with known strong views on the subject, to contribute short articles and these will be published on this page as they are sent to us. Links to the articles we have received are given below.

If you have an opinion that you would like to air, please send an email to "The PSA Debate", and we will publish it on this page. To be published, we do require that you give your name (not necessarily for publication, so please say so if you wish to remain anonymous) and position (e.g. patient, partner of patient, interested member of the public, GP, nurse, specialist nurse, consultant urologist, oncologist, etc).
